I knew many of my residents did not have plans for Valentines Day because they were single/weren't near their partner/etc and might want something to do because of this. Therefore, I wanted to plan a social event to give my residents the opportunity to have some cupcakes and create some Valentines Day arts and crafts for themselves, friends, partners, etc.

The girls were all super excited about Valentines day and we talked about everyones plans for the evening and the gifts the had gotten from boyfriends and parents. Kennedy and I also helped each other choose outfits for the night.

At this small event, residents will come to my apartment and watch "Crazy, Stupid, Love" while we eat pizza and drink beverages. The purpose of this event is to develop a stronger relationship with my residents and to watch a great movie. Galentine’s Day is a holiday that falls the day before Valentine’s Day, February 13th. It highlights the love and friendship among women, or, dare I say, gals. In Leslie Knope's own words, “February 14th, Valentine’s Day, is about romance, but February 13th, Galentine’s Day, is about celebrating lady friends. To provide a space for students to enjoy the day who do not have plans to celebrate Valentine's Day.
On Valentine's Day, residents will go through the halls of both A/B and D/E in Aberdeen & Inverness posting little self-esteem notes on the doors of residents with chocolate. Each note will state,

A community building program where I put on a sappy movie, provide those silly elementary school valentine's day cards for everyone to make for each other, and give out lots of candy.
This educational program will be designed to teach the residents about how to have happy, healthy relationships. However, this will not end with romantic relationships. We will also focus on friendships, as well as how to be happy single. At the program, we will have a resource table about how to know you are in an abusive relationships, and resources to get help. Our team will be providing chocolate cookies, strawberries, and condoms for residents to celebrate valentines day. We will be bringing health and awareness to residents about the importance of practicing safe sex.
