This program is meant to give residents a better understanding of the meaning behind environmental racism and how minorities are often subjected to living in poorer living conditions, which continues the cycle of oppression and struggles. A dialogue will be started to discuss the recent events such as the Flint, Michigan water crisis and the Dakota Access pipeline.

This program will allow students to create their own idea and have an opportunity to pitch their idea to judges who will grade their performance as well as give feedback. This will help the entrepreneurs gain a perspective of how startup companies are created in a way.

This program revolves around self-care. Residents will reflect on their health (physical, mental, emotional), academics, relationships, etc. I will pass out succulents as a metaphor for self-care.
Wed, Mar 01, 2017 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM PST @ Cedritos
I'll open the program with a small video on values. The video is about 5 minutes long and talked about the basics of personal values and how they shape our personal identity. Each attendee will be given 5 slips of paper (You can give more if attendance is lacking) and asked them to write one of their top 5 values on a slip of the paper. I'll put up a list of values on the screen to give attendees an idea of different values to get them thinking. Hanging on the wall, there will be a large sheet of butcher paper. Before the program, I'll write out the outline of the words “We Are.” As residents finished filling out their sheets, I will begin taping the slips of paper to the butcher paper in the outline. Each sheet of paper comes together to write out “We Are” with a wide array of different values. After the activity, I'll lead a small discussion again on values after the activity, why we decided to make it spell out “We are,” and asked which values surprised attendees. I'll also discuss how even though we may not hold a value close in our personal lives doesn’t mean we shouldn’t respect that value in others. To keep the pun in the name working, I'll then make s’mores.
