West Coast Customs Tour

This program will allow students to create their own idea and have an opportunity to pitch their idea to judges who will grade their performance as well as give feedback. This will help the entrepreneurs gain a perspective of how startup companies are created in a way.

Who’s Coming to Dinner?: Breaking Down Stereotypes

An interactive social justice program that encourages participants to confront stereotypes in our society as well as our own biases when it comes to interacting with people we don't know. The program will start off with participants being given a sheet of paper labeled "Who's Coming to Dinner?" with 18 different people listed on the sheet (ex. Conservative politician, liberal activist, homeless veteran, single mother, Hollywood actress, dictator etc.). Instructions will be given for each participant to choose 5 people from the list who they would invite to a dinner party and 5 people they would not invite. Participants will then be given the opportunity to discuss in a group who they decided to invite/not invite and why. Discussion will be facilitated on biases and stereotypes and what factors lead people to make the decisions they did, and how it is harmful to create judgements about people because of one particular label they are given.

The Color We See

This program is meant to introduce residents to the concept of colorism. By participating in this program, there will be a discussion on how the media perceives people of lighter skin color as being better and more favored as opposed to people with darker skin tones. Often the media only likes to cast people of lighter skin often giving the image that people of darker skin tones are not a large portion of society.

A service learning program where residents of the community can donate all articles of clothing to the front desk of Luna and Montanas. As we are approaching the end of the quarter and school term, residents will be moving out and trying to lighten their load. This is a great opportunity for them to donate any clothes they no longer need. Everything will be donated to a local organization dedicated to helping the need.
